Sonic Art Installation
Come and enjoy this sonic art installation!
Sound is all around us. Eyelids can help us rest from sight, but we don’t have earlids. Sometimes we turn our active listening off. But the sounds around us still affect the way we feel.
I hope unexpected sounds in an unusual setting helps us to pay more attention to the lush experience that our sense of hearing is providing us every moment of our lives.
Music is not the only sonic art.
Ys is inspired by the legendary Breton sunken city of the same name.
Imagine descending down a vortex as you descend this staircase. The sounds of the surface retreat. As you approach the ramparts, to your surprise, you perceive that drowned Ys is not silent. It is filled with the thrum and the rhythm of the deep sea.
As you descend the staircase, listen as the sounds you hear mirror your descent into the sea. Circling gulls give way to manatees and dolphins and then to the great whales in the depths.
Do the sounds seem unfamiliar, distorted? How do the sounds affect you as you take your aural journey into the Ocean’s depths and walk through the drowned city, Ys.
